?Brock House? was built in the 1840?s, and was former winner of South Australian Heritage Home of the Year. The original 2 room cottage would rank as one of the first dwellings built after the Barossa region was founded by wealthy shipping merchant, George Fife Angas.
In 2000 Brock House was looking for a new family, someone to restore her to her former glory and perhaps expand her to welcome a new family. The Verrion family commenced a five year journey, stripping away years of neglect and unsympathetic additions that had been added over the generations until they were left with the original, two roomed wattle and daub cottage and bake house chimney.
Restoration work was carried out on the existing two rooms, which now serve as a gorgeous master bedroom, his and her walk through robes, an en-suite bathroom and parent?s retreat. A free standing extension which adjoins the cottage offers family sized accommodation with a further three bedrooms, main bathroom and an extensive open plan kitchen/dining/family room.
Timber features strongly throughout the home, from the original timber ceilings and beams to the recycled oregon timber kitchen, with plate rack, generous benchtops and stainless steel appliances which include a 900mm, 5 burner gas stove and dishwasher. Living in an historic home doesn?t mean that you have to compromise on modern conveniences. The kitchen, dining and family room are at the centre of family living with a combustion heater maintaining a cosy ambiance through winter and a split system air conditioner for convenience. Double doors lead onto the decked verandah area with its fabulous views over open paddocks and glorious sunsets.

The judge?s comments praised the owners ?determination to do everything right? and the ?passion, hard work and attention to detail? that resulted in this award winning project. Now they are reluctantly leaving this labour of love, to pursue a new adventure, giving the next owner the opportunity to enjoy this very special home.
